Pork

A 4-H project has turned into a passion for pigs. The Tietz family has a very long tradition of prize-winning pigs but exited the pork business temporarily in 1992.  Fast forward 20 years to 2012 when our eldest son, Christian, joined 4-H. His first year he raised 5 hogs for his animal project. Dad then caught the fever and raised another batch that fall, for sale to family and friends, and the business took off. Soon afterwards, Christian’s brother and sister joined him in raising hogs for 4-H. Our children wanted to learn more about raising hogs and embarked on raising them from birth to the butcher shop. They purchased their own breeding stock and have been expanding their herd since 2018.  We raise several breeds and have crossbred hogs as well. The herd has Duroc, Spot, Hampshire, York and Berkshire. 

Their hard work started to pay off in 2019, when Christian won the Dodge County Fair Grand Champion with a Hampshire Gilt in the Carcass competition as judged by USDA inspectors. He had the highest quality of meat according to USDA standards and measurements and was a feature article in The Wisconsin State Farmer, the state’s top farm periodical.

Our hogs eat a diet of ground popcorn and produce from our extensive vegetable gardens. They enjoy feasting on sweet corn, melons, pumpkins and winter squash. They have access to plenty of fresh water and ground feed. Our hogs are housed in barns with bedding and an outdoor fenced area to rut around in the dirt and sleep in the sunshine. We name many of our hogs and strive to provide them with a good life, even when it is a sacrifice in ours. Tammy can often be found in the dead of winter and heat of summer in the birthing barn helping the mamas.

We offer our award-winning pork in two ways. Half and Whole Hogs or Individual Retail Packages. 

Half and whole hogs are available at regular intervals throughout the year.  Hogs are processed at Detjens Northern Trail Meats, a hard working family owned business in Watertown, WI. Orders can be placed via text or phone call to Randy Tietz at 414-828-5700.

 We offer a variety of pork cuts at the farm store and local farmers markets. These retail packages are processed by The Meat Market, a hard working family owned business in Baraboo, WI. Available cuts of pork are Bacon, Breakfast Links, Assorted Brats, Bone-In Pork Chops, Pork Sausage and Cottage Bacon.
