Our Farm

Tietz Family Farms

Tietz Family Farms is a family owned and operated farm located in the fertile Rock River Valley just outside Watertown, Wisconsin. Our specialty is delicious, homegrown popcorn. We are also one of the area’s largest producers of seasonal fresh produce, winter squash and pork.

Eight Generations and Still Farming Strong!

In 1843, Frederick Tietz left his homeland in Germany to escape religious persecution. He settled in the fertile rolling hills of Dodge County, part of the Northwest Territory. The area eventually became known as Lebanon and became part of the State of Wisconsin. After settling in the area, his father Michael immigrated as well to help Frederick, who married and raised a family, establishing a successful farm and homestead. Eight generations later, their land and family continues to be an integral component of Tietz Family Farms with his great-great-great-great-great grandchildren living and farming this same land.  Sustainability is not just a word to us—it’s a way of life.

Our Farm Today

Today, Tietz Family Farms owns and operates nearly 500 acres. We produce Tietz Family Farms world famous popcorn as well as a vast array of seasonal produce. In addition, we raise our own hogs, producing fresh, humanely raised pork.

We market our fresh produce, popcorn and pork primarily at our on-farm store as well as at local Farmer’s Markets in Oconomowoc, Oshkosh, Beloit, and Madison, Wisconsin during the summer outdoor market season.

Our on-farm store opens up on weekends in late September – October for our Fall Market on the Farm, which has been an area favorite for decades.

We would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support and look forward to serving you in the future.

Sincerely,
Tietz Family Farms

What is the best way to store popcorn?

Store popcorn kernels in an air-tight glass or plastic container that has a tight-fitting
lid. Loss of moisture is one of the
reasons for “old maids”.

Do the different colored kernels pop colored popcorn?

No they do not. All popcorn kernels pop either white or in varying shades of yellow. White varieties tend to be lighter, crisper and smaller popped flakes. Yellow varieties are heartier textured, chewier popped flakes. Every color has subtle taste and texture differences that you do not find in the commercially produced varieties.

How do I make popcorn?

Our popcorn can be popped on a stove top with oil, using an oil popper (Stir Crazy or Whirly Pop), hot air popper, commercial popcorn machine, or a microwave popper.

WHEN IS YOUR FARM STORE OPEN?

Our seasonal FARM STORE opens mid September - October for our Fall Market at the Farm. The store is open on WEEKENDS ONLY from 9 am - 5 pm.
